Here is a very important memory from childhood.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

A certain woman is Caucasian.\u00a0 Her skin is as fair as fair skin can be, but she does not care what color anyone\u2019s skin happens to be. \u00a0Instead, she treasures each person for his or her unique contribution to the world around us.<\/p>\n

She will always have a bad memory of the day when her Mother tried to change her opinion of people who have skin colors other than white.<\/h5>\n

Many years ago, this woman was a latchkey kid.\u00a0 After school she would walk home with friends, unlock the front door of our house, and go inside and put down her books.\u00a0 Sometimes her friends would come inside for a few minutes with her. Then she would go back outside and play with her friends.<\/p>\n

But one day her Mother lay on the couch when she unlocked the door.\u00a0 Mother had come home early with a headache.\u00a0 Looking to her daughter’s friend standing next to her daughter, she screamed so loudly the whole neighborhood could hear, \u201cGet that f-ing N—– out of my house!\u201d\u00a0 I hate N\u2019s and do not allow them in MY home!\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to her Mother yelling those words at herself and her friend, she had never understood what the \u201cN word\u201d meant.\u00a0 \u00a0She dropped her books and ran outside with her friend.\u00a0 Ashamed of what her Mother had said, she cried and apologized to her friend.\u00a0 Then her Mother yelled for her to come back into to the house \u201cwithout the f-ing N—–\u201c.<\/p>\n

Her Mother grounded her from playing with her friend ever again.\u00a0 Mother promised that if she ever caught her daughter playing with any person of color again, she would make her painfully aware of how wrong it is for a white person to play with a black person.<\/p>\n

Not caring for her Mother\u2019s attitude toward people who look different from herself, she continued to play with her friend.\u00a0 Even though her mother spanked her whenever she found out that her daughter had played with anyone with colored skin.<\/p>\n

The little girl’s Mother could not spank her love of all people out of her.\u00a0 And neither could anyone else or anything else change her opinion.\u00a0 She accepts and values all people regardless of their skin color. Every human being contributes something valuable to the world regardless of the color of his or her skin.<\/p>\n

Just sharing a grown woman’s childhood memory.<\/p>\n
