{"id":4326,"date":"2017-11-07T19:11:18","date_gmt":"2017-11-08T00:11:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bobbiejrae.com\/home\/?p=4326"},"modified":"2024-08-29T12:59:01","modified_gmt":"2024-08-29T16:59:01","slug":"thoughts-prayers-bj-rae-eagles-encouraging-words","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bobbiejrae.com\/home\/thoughts-prayers-bj-rae-eagles-encouraging-words\/","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts and Prayers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><em>Right now we need more than just &#8220;thoughts and prayers&#8221;!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">How many more \u201cthoughts and prayers\u201d events will happen before we wake up and prevent them?<\/p>\n<h4>There have been too many thoughts and prayers events recently!<\/h4>\n<p>On October 1, 2017, Stephen Paddock killed 58 and wounded nearly 500 others in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n<p>Devin Patrick Kelley killed 26 people at a small Texas Baptist church.\u00a0 Then he died as the result of three gunshot wounds, including a self-inflicted shot to the head. The dead parishioners from the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs ranged in age from 17 months to 77 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Both gunmen had one thing in common:\u00a0 mental illness.<\/p>\n<p>Paddock was status-driven.\u00a0 He liked to be recognized in the casino environment and also enjoyed being recognized by his family and friends for his money.\u00a0 He had been depressed after losing a significant amount of money in the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>In June of 2012, Devin Patrick Kelley escaped from Peak Behavioral Health Systems in New Mexico, just months after he was accused of abusing his ex-wife and her child.\u00a0 The Air Force had given him a dishonorable conduct discharge but had \u201cforgotten\u201d to let the FBI data base know about his violent conduct with his family.\u00a0 Therefore he was able to purchase a gun.<\/p>\n<p>Both of these events are what I call \u201cthoughts and prayers events\u201d, events that are followed by many people sending &#8220;thoughts and prayers&#8221; to the victims and their loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>How many of these tragic events will our society endure before we stand up and say \u201cNO MORE\u201d!<\/p>\n<p>I hope we stand as a society today, right now, and demand change!<\/p>\n<h4>Hopefully, our society can make the following changes.<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>A ban on all assault weapons.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No one who \u201cneeds\u201d a gun for personal protection needs an assault weapon.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps law enforcement everywhere needs to round up and destroy all assault weapons in the US.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Consider the issues surrounding gun ownership.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We need to consider if guns should be allowed or not in our society. If our society does permit guns, who should have them? Should a mental health exam be required before a gun permit is issued?
