He was late for work so he asked his wife to cap the bottle and put it in the cupboard. The mother, totally preoccupied in the kitchen, forgot about the open medicine bottle.<\/p>\n<p>The boy saw the bottle and playfully went to it.\u00a0 Fascinated with its color, he drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous medicine meant for adults in small doses. When the young boy collapsed, his Mom rushed him to the hospital, where he died.<\/p>\n<p>The Mom was stunned and terrified.\u00a0 How would she face her husband?<\/p>\n<h5>When the Dad came to the hospital and saw his dead son, he looked at his wife.\u00a0 He only said four words: I love you, Darling.\u201d<\/h5>\n<p>His totally unexpected behavior is proactive.\u00a0 The child is dead.\u00a0 Had he criticized his wife, his words would not have brought his son back.\u00a0 So he responded lovingly instead.<\/p>\n<p>His proactive behavior shows he is taking control of the situation and making things happen instead of adjusting to it or waiting for something to happy.\u00a0 It shows he is acting in advance to prevent future negative events.\u00a0 He is doing his best to make lemonade even though life has just handed him bunches of lemons!<\/p>\n<p>When life hands you lemons, what do you do?\u00a0 Do you behave proactively or re-actively?<\/p>\n<p>I know from experience that behaving proactively helps me cope with depression and anxiety.
