The more I wait the more patient I become.\u00a0 Being more patient enables me to make better decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Wendy, a friend of mine, taught a lesson in children\u2019s church.\u00a0 She gave the kids Easter eggs with prizes in them.\u00a0 Each child could trade or keep the prize he got.\u00a0 The young kids wanted only the prizes that they could eat right away. \u00a0One child traded away a $10 bill to an adult.<\/p>\n<p>These kids are just like the adults in our society.\u00a0 People value things they can use now instead of what they can use in the future. When we act like these children, we lose out on good things that would have happened in our future.<\/p>\n<p>How can you increase patience?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Wait to make a decision.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/review.chicagobooth.edu\/experts\/richard-h-thaler\">People who wait to make a decision have more patience<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When people wait, they value what they are waiting for.\u00a0 That higher value makes people more patient.<\/p>\n<p>Our stove has been having issues for the past few months.\u00a0 We have been considering our options for a few weeks now.\u00a0 In a recent discussion, my hubby and I realized we both prefer to cook on a gas stove instead of electric. Now we are waiting for the right gas stove to come along at the right price.\u00a0 We value getting the right stove at the right price more than getting a new stove today. Had we simply gone out and replaced our stove immediately, we would not have gotten the stove we want.\u00a0 \u00a0Also, we would not have increased our patience levels!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Remind yourself of the benefits of having patience.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Patient people have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livescience.com\/25085-impatience-may-hurt-heart.html\">fewer heart health<\/a> issues. They have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livescience.com\/25085-impatience-may-hurt-heart.html\">less anxiety<\/a>.\u00a0 And they are definitely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.2knowmyself.com\/the_difference_between_success_and_failure_is_patience_and_persistence\">more successful<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/science\/maria-konnikova\/struggles-psychologist-studying-self-control\">Walter Mischel<\/a> at Stanford showed \u00a0that kids who can wait longer have higher test scores and are healthier.<\/p>\n<p>My husband is a Vietnam veteran.\u00a0 He has multiple health issues related to his exposure to Agent Orange, one of which is coronary artery disease.
