{"id":7542,"date":"2018-02-04T21:02:03","date_gmt":"2018-02-05T02:02:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bobbiejrae.com\/home\/?p=7542"},"modified":"2024-08-29T13:01:13","modified_gmt":"2024-08-29T17:01:13","slug":"compassion-bj-rae-eagle-encouraging-words","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bobbiejrae.com\/home\/compassion-bj-rae-eagle-encouraging-words\/","title":{"rendered":"Effective Compassion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><em>Effective compassion can improve our declining morality.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>What can we do to improve morality?\u00a0 We must \u00a0improve morality if we want to stop sexual harassment, racial discrimination, the use of illegal drugs, and violence. Reversing the decline in morality is key to making our country a safe place for everyone again.<\/p>\n<p>The current state of our morality (throughout the whole world, actually) appears hopeless, doesn\u2019t it?\u00a0 But it is not.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bobbiejrae.com\/home\/decline-us-morality-near-river-bj-rae-encouraging-words-eagle\/\">Because a &#8220;me first&#8221; attitude has caused the decline in morality<\/a>, we need to practice effective compassion to reverse it. Effective compassion causes people to focus on others and what they need, and therefore it will reverse the decline in morality.<\/p>\n<p>What is \u201ceffective compassion\u201d?\u00a0 Together, in this case, these two words mean \u201csympathetically alleviating others\u2019 distress with the result of reversing the decline in morality\u201d.\u00a0 All you need to practice this vital virtue are the attributes \u00a0discernment and accountability.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Discernment<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The attribute of discernment has two parts.\u00a0 First, \u00a0figuring out who really needs help and who does not.\u00a0 Second, figuring out what kind of help someone needs.<\/p>\n<p>This trait is developed through the experience of helping others.\u00a0 When I was going \u00a0through my divorce, I volunteered at several centers that help people in need.\u00a0 I would serve food and clean tables, help people find the right size of clothing at the clothing bank, and do just about anything I could to make someone\u2019s day better.\u00a0 But to get help at the centers at which I volunteered, another volunteer screened people to discern if they really needed the help and what kind of help\u00a0 they needed.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, some people tried to get past the screening process but usually could not.\u00a0 The screening enabled the centers to use their finite \u00a0resources to help those who truly needed help.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Accountability<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The second attribute associated with effective compassion is accountability.\u00a0 Holding others accountable for their actions is essential.<\/p>\n<p>When I was younger, I was raped.\u00a0 Of course, I filed the police report and followed through to make certain the man who raped me would not hurt anyone else and got the help he needed to cease his immoral behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, I was unlucky enough to get pregnant as a result of the rape.\u00a0 I held myself accountable\u00a0 to God and did not have an abortion.\u00a0 After holding my infant for a few days in the hospital, I handed him over to the social worker and signed adoption papers with tears in my eyes and a broken heart.\u00a0 I knew I could not take care of my child alone so I gave him the best life I could.<\/p>\n<p>Accountability means accepting no excuses and often is the best type of help we can offer. It also means holding yourself accountable for your own actions and setting the best example possible\u00a0 for others to follow.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>Practicing effective compassion helps reverse morality because it enables others to change their ways.\u00a0 When you \u00a0give someone the help he needs, you show him you care about and value him.\u00a0 Likewise, when you hold someone accountable for their actions, you do the same thing.\u00a0 As a result, holding someone accountable shows that you care enough to not allow someone to continue in their immoral ways.<\/p>\n<p>I am not perfect, but I do practice effective compassion.
