Why do famous and wealthy people commit suicide?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Today the famous designer Kate Spade hung herself in her New York City apartment.\u00a0 Most of us wonder why someone who is rich, famous, and appears to have it all would take her own life.<\/p>\n

So why do famous people commit suicide?<\/p>\n

In the Oscar winning movie The King\u2019s Speech<\/u>, Colin Firth played King George VI.\u00a0 One of the most poignant lines in the movie was King George\u2019s response to his speech therapists\u2019 statement, \u201cThat\u2019s what friends are for\u201d.\u00a0 His touching response was \u201cI wouldn\u2019t know\u201d.<\/p>\n

As King, George VI was at the top, where life can be very lonely.\u00a0 People at the top truly struggle to connect with those beneath them and those beneath them treat them as if they are on a pedestal.\u00a0 Their feelings of isolation develop.<\/p>\n

We all know that isolation leads to loneliness and depression and all of its dangers, including suicide.<\/p>\n

Like a king, Kate Spade was successful and wealthy and at the lonely top. Especially when her husband began divorce proceedings.<\/p>\n

Life does not have to end in suicide for people at the top, though.\u00a0 All it takes to prevent loneliness is for a single person to get close to someone and be a faithful friend.<\/p>\n

Fortunately for King George VI in The King\u2019s Speech<\/u>, his therapist heard his comment and reached out to him.\u00a0 Even in the midst of the inequality of a King and lowly speech therapist, the lowly speech therapist Lionel found a way to become the King\u2019s friend.\u00a0 Lionel and \u201cBertie\u201d (King George\u2019s nickname in the movie) remained friends until death.<\/p>\n

Why do people who seem to have it all commit suicide?\u00a0 It is lonely at the top.<\/p>\n

Rest in peace, Kate Spade.<\/p>\n
