The power of music!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Did you know that music heals the body and the brain?\u00a0<em>\u00a0<\/em>It keeps an aging brain healthy and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brainline.org\/content\/2011\/03\/how-music-helps-to-heal-the-injured-brain.html\">heals an injured or diseased brain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Music also improves emotional and mental well-being. Listening to music causes your brain to release dopamine, a feel good chemical. Dopamine enables us to feel happiness, excitement, and joy. Therefore, this activity causes the same burst of happiness that we get from sex or certain drugs. Playing music with a quick tempo in a major key makes people feel happy, and playing fast music in a minor key makes people feel sad.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Improves physical health.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Music strengthens the heart. It improves the recovery of patients recovering from heart disease. It\u00a0also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/uknews\/2569640\/Music-can-boost-your-immune-system.html\">boosts the immune system<\/a>. It reduces the amount of cortisol. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/blog\/the-athletes-way\/201301\/cortisol-why-the-stress-hormone-is-public-enemy-no-1\">Cortisol<\/a> weakens the immune system, increases heart disease risk, interferes with learning and memory, and more.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/blog\/why-music-moves-us\/201111\/music-and-pain-relief\">It also helps with pain management<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Listening to 50 minutes of uplifting songs\u00a0causes a boost in the levels of antibodies in the human body.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Decreases depression and anxiety.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Drexel University researchers found that music therapy reduces anxiety, and improves blood pressure levels as well as moods.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Improves sleep quality.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Because it\u00a0lowers stress and anxiety, it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/blog\/the-athletes-way\/201301\/cortisol-why-the-stress-hormone-is-public-enemy-no-1\">promotes better sleep patterns and improves sleep quality<\/a>. It has been found useful in insomnia treatment also.<\/p>\n<p>I have been learning to play the piano for the last year. I have found that whenever I start to feel frustrated or anxious, playing the piano helps calm me down. Then I sleep much better.
