When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

Good Things Will Come

Encouraging you to wait for the good things in life on near a river..

Being patient does cause good things to happen in your life.

People hate to wait.

Having  to wait on hold.  Being stuck in traffic.  Waiting  in line at the store.  All of these annoy us very badly.

Patience is a virtue and a good thing. The more I wait the more patient I become.  Being more patient enables me to make better decisions.

Wendy, a friend of mine, taught a lesson in children’s church.  She gave the kids Easter eggs with prizes in them.  Each child could trade or keep the prize he got.  The young kids wanted only the prizes that they could eat right away.  One child traded away a $10 bill to an adult.

These kids are just like the adults in our society.  People value things they can use now instead of what they can use in the future. When we act like these children, we lose out on good things that would have happened in our future.

How can you increase patience?

  • Wait to make a decision.

People who wait to make a decision have more patience.

When people wait, they value what they are waiting for.  That higher value makes people more patient.

Our stove has been having issues for the past few months.  We have been considering our options for a few weeks now.  In a recent discussion, my hubby and I realized we both prefer to cook on a gas stove instead of electric. Now we are waiting for the right gas stove to come along at the right price.  We value getting the right stove at the right price more than getting a new stove today. Had we simply gone out and replaced our stove immediately, we would not have gotten the stove we want.   Also, we would not have increased our patience levels!

  • Remind yourself of the benefits of having patience.

Patient people have fewer heart health issues. They have less anxiety.  And they are definitely more successful!

Walter Mischel at Stanford showed  that kids who can wait longer have higher test scores and are healthier.

My husband is a Vietnam veteran.  He has multiple health issues related to his exposure to Agent Orange, one of which is coronary artery disease. I do not worry that impatience will affect his heart, though.  He is normally one of the most patient people in the entire universe!

  • Teach your loved ones to be patient.

When you wait to make a decision, tell your loved ones what you are doing and why.  Role model patience.

People who look up to you do what you do, not what you tell them to do.  Especially children.

We just got the phone call that our tires are finally here.  We had to wait 4 weeks for our tires to come in.   I am so happy that I will be home on Thursday afternoon!  I am so glad we did not opt to take a different vehicle home and return for ours later.  That just did not sound like a good idea.

Now that I have waited four weeks for tires, I know I can wait for my first publisher NCP to come its senses and do the right thing.  If I have to wait ten years, I will do that.

I can wait longer than just about anyone.  I know that good things come to those who wait, including more patience!  No one can have too much patience!  Patient people are far more successful.

Have patience and get the good things in life!
